What makes someone a good dental implant candidate?

Some of the things your dentist will look at when they are trying to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for dental implants are:

  • Bone density – Your dentist will check the density of the bone where the dental implant is going to be placed to determine whether or not a dental implant will be strong enough if it is placed into the bone in that location.
  • Gum disease – Your dentist will check for gum disease. The reason that they do this is because gum disease can lead to deterioration of the bone where the implant is placed. To ensure that a dental implant will stay strong, it is important that the recipient’s mouth is free of gum disease.
  • Sinus location – Your dentist will take x-rays to determine where your sinuses run if they are doing an implant in your upper jaw. It is important to ensure that there is enough bone to place the implant into without the implant going into your sinuses and creating additional issues.

Are there different types of dental implants?
